StartUB!, the Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship of UB, is an initiative of the University of Barcelona created to promote entrepreneurial and innovative competencies within the university community. It supports and guides all individuals interested in entrepreneurship, always emphasising creativity, equality, inclusion, gender equity, and sustainability. 

StartUB! mission is: 

“Inspiring a transformative and impactful culture of inclusive, sustainable, and innovative entrepreneurship within the university community.”

StartUB! seeks to materialise its vision to: 

“Becoming an international leader in driving impactful change through university entrepreneurship and innovation.” …

The general objectives are:  “ to coordinate, promote, and support the design and development of activities related to innovation and entrepreneurship for all the collective of UB, fostering connections with the entrepreneurial ecosystem, promoting synergies and exchanges among different projects, and providing visibility to the entrepreneurial projects developed within it, as well as those carried out at the innovation and entrepreneurship centres of UB.”

The specific objectives of StartUB! as the Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship of UB are:

1. To promote innovation and entrepreneurship for all the collectives of UB (students, faculty, and staff) in collaboration with other stakeholders.
2. To coordinate the promotion, projection, and dissemination of innovation and entrepreneurship in all its forms, from technological to social, emerging within UB in any of the fields of science, technology, social sciences, humanities, and arts.
3. To coordinate the activities carried out by the Centers of innovation and entrepreneurship of UB, and
4. To organise cross-cutting activities within its field of expertise.

Connecting with the ecosystem: 

The University of Barcelona strives to establish itself as a reference in the innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem at the local, regional, national, and European levels.

Therefore, StartUB! will actively participate in this ecosystem and direct efforts towards generating impact.

We are open to collaborate

StartUB! has recently redefined our core, thanks to the new university regulatory frameworks, identified opportunities, trends in entrepreneurship education, and the focus on entrepreneurial competencies-EntreComp. This was further motivated by the period of reflection spurred by the HEI INNOVATE initiative during the execution of the TRUE project.

For this reason:

In StartUB!, we will promote a green, inclusive, and innovative culture, and we will work towards socialising entrepreneurship, understood as the formative instrument to transform and impact our context, stimulating innovation within our university communities, shaping the new professional profiles, and promoting the creation of business. 

Therefore, we have designed a framework that allows us to develop a model that distinguishes our entrepreneurial journey.  The StartUB! model is a three-stage intervention framework designed to develop entrepreneurial competencies in individuals. It centers around various activities carefully organised to foster the entrepreneurial journey of our community and change the mindset needed to tackle today's challenges. The model is based on the EntreComp framework, a reference model developed by the European Commission.
